The German Research Foundation (DFG) has extended the Research Training Group on "Symmetry Breaking in Fundamental Interactions" (RTG 1581), established in 2009, to be funded until fall 2018. This secures continued structured training for doctoral students in six research groups in elementary particle and hadron physics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) for another 4.5 years. Following the approval of the Cluster of Excellence "Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter" (PRISMA) and the repeated success of the Graduate School of Excellence "Materials Science in Mainz" in the 2012 Excellence Initiative by the German federal and state governments, now the particle and hadron physicists of Mainz University receive great recognition for their interdisciplinary approach to and future-oriented concept for the training of young researchers.
"The extension of our Symmetry Breaking Research Training Group is a proof of the excellent work that is being done by particle and hadron physicists at Mainz University. We look forward to continuing and further developing our concept of research-oriented training of PhD candidates in the coming years," said Professor Matthias Neubert, Director of the Gutenberg Research College (GRC). Funds for visits by guest researchers as well as for participation in (closed) conferences and summer schools have been requested, giving young scientists from Mainz the chance to meet up and connect with renowned international scientists of various disciplines.
Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz supports the Research Training Group in the field of administration and by providing the necessary infrastructure.
